Happy New Year, blog readers! I hope 2011 has been good to you thus far and that the Lord opens doors and leads you through them this year…
Twenty-three days into this new year, I had my 18th birthday. I’m now officially able to vote, buy things like Snuggies and Sham-wows off of those obnoxious TV commercials,
enter the lottery and smoke. The latter two I won’t be partaking in, but it’s kinda funny to think that I could if I wanted to… But I don’t, so relax! And come to think of it, I probably won’t be buying a Sham-wow anytime soon either. Hmm. Anyway, on to less shady subjects… ;)
My prayer for this year is that the Lord would open doors to the places he wants me to go, close (and lock) the doors that aren’t in his plan, and give me the strength and courage to accept both. I sat down at 11:23 p.m. on January 23rd and wrote out “Lord, thanks for giving me 18, but I don’t want it. I’ll mess it up like always, so please take it and lead me through it!” If I learned anything from 17, I figured out that I don’t know what I’m doing!!! But this year, I’m excited and secretly terrified to see what the Lord will ask of me. But I’m at peace knowing that the God who created me is in charge and has a perfect plan!
This is gonna be easier said than done, so hold me to it, dear reader(s). I’d be really thankful if you’d help me fulfill this commitment to letting the Lord handle 18 for me. So please encourage me, give me a talkin’-to when I need it, and help me stick to it when it’d be easier to cut and run.
Here’s a photo of “the birthday girl” and the lovely lady who carried me around for 9-ish months. Talk about a saint, she’s the perfect example of patient love and she’s pretty good-lookin’ on top of it all… But don’t tell her I said that, much less blogged about it ;)
Thanks for all the birthday wishes, guys ‘n gals! I appreciate the silly gifts and birthday hugs. Y’all made it the best birthday to date… (No pressure, 19!)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.” – Jeremiah 29:11-14 (underlining added at the discretion of the blogger.)
